Dave Rollo to seek re-election to City Council District IV

Today, I am announcing my campaign for reelection to the Bloomington Common Council in District IV.

My campaign is focused on sustainability for our community. Our quality of life, now and in the future, depends on our ability to integrate environmental protection, social equity and economic development in our planning and policy initiatives. Thus, my efforts on the Council will continue to promote the following three areas in mutually beneficial ways:

  • Greenspace protection and acquisition, alternative transportation and trails, and valuation of natural goods and services in land development decisions.
  • Caring for all members of the community. I'll continue to be a strong advocate for social services and equity for all members of our community while respecting and enhancing the diversity of all citizens.
  • Promotion of economic development in the life sciences, where we have a strong competitive advantage. I will also continue to work to expand the diversity and influence of the small business sector, which is integral to a healthy local economy.

As a District Representative, I’ll continue to advocate for the needs of District IV neighborhoods, such as sidewalks, stormwater projects, public safety, traffic calming, and enforcement of our rental occupancy code.

The campaign will rely primarily on a grassroots effort to reach every home in District IV. I feel that it important to address the ever greater role that money plays in the electoral process. Our political system is being distorted by the influence of campaign contributions, and it is up to all of us to work to remedy this. I commit to a campaign contribution maximum limit of $50 per person to demonstrate that a low expense campaign is practical, and possible.

My experience includes:
Bloomington City Council, currently serving as president. Former Plan Commission member, former member and chair of the Environmental Commission, service on the Utilities Service Board, Jack Hopkins Social Service Committee, and the City Sidewalk Committee. I currently serve on the Environmental Resource Advisory Council, the Bloomington Economic Development Commission, and the Bloomington Commission on Sustainability.

I work at Indiana University as a Research Associate in Microbiology.
